Apple's Siri 2.0 Powered by Google Gemini Set to Launch in March

Apple has confirmed that Siri 2.0, a completely redesigned voice assistant powered in part by Google's Gemini AI models, remains on track for launch in 2026 with developers receiving beta access around February 23 and public release expected in March or early April.

The upgrade addresses years of criticism about Siri's limitations compared to competitors. Internally codenamed "Campos," the revamped assistant will understand personal context by drawing information from apps like Messages, Notes, Calendar, and Photos—finally delivering the contextual intelligence users have demanded.

"This is Siri reimagined from the ground up," Apple executives explained in developer briefings. "The new architecture combines our proprietary AI models with Google's Gemini technology to create conversational AI that actually understands what you're asking and can act across your entire device ecosystem."

The enhanced Siri executes multi-step tasks across apps using App Intents—a fundamental capability that enables workflows like "Find the restaurant Sarah mentioned in Messages last week, check if it's open tonight, and add a reminder to make a reservation." Previous Siri versions required separate commands for each action.

Visual Intelligence, which CEO Tim Cook identified as one of Apple Intelligence's most popular features, gains expanded capabilities beyond the camera app. In iOS 26, visual intelligence now works with screenshots throughout the iPhone, analyzing images and providing contextual information on demand.

The timing reflects broader strategic shifts at Apple. In December 2025, John Giannandrea stepped down as SVP of Machine Learning and AI Strategy, with Amar Subramanya—a veteran of Google and Microsoft AI teams—taking over leadership. In January 2026, Apple acquired Q.ai, an Israeli AI startup, for nearly $2 billion to bolster its AI capabilities.

Future hardware expansions are planned. High-end AirPods Pro 3 and Apple Glasses, both expected later this year, will feature built-in cameras tied to visual intelligence for real-time environmental analysis and information overlay. Apple developers are also working on AI-powered web search that analyzes queries and provides summaries, positioning the company to compete with Google's AI-enhanced search.

The iOS 26.4 beta arriving around February 23 gives developers early access to the new Siri capabilities, with widespread public rollout anticipated in March. Industry analysts view the upgrade as critical for Apple to remain competitive as AI assistants become increasingly central to smartphone experiences.
